Gentle Giants, Quiet Minds:
Tonga 30 September to 7 October 2026

Day 1: Arrival and Welcome

Theme: Setting the Stage for Transformation

  • Afternoon Session (3:00 PM - 5:00 PM):

    • Official Welcome: A gentle gathering to welcome participants. We'll open the floor for introductions and set the intention for the journey ahead.

Day 2: Laying the Foundation for Well-being

Theme: Meditation & Medicine:  Mind-Body Connection

  • Morning Session:

    • Lecture: Meditation & Medicine - An introduction to the benefits of meditation and mindfulness techniques, how they can reduce burnout, enhance focus and cultivate a deeper sense of well-being and purpose in your medical career. 

    • Guided Practice: Practical application of key Meditation techniques – Mindfulness, Samatha, Open Awareness.

    • Workshop: Beyond the Breath: A deep dive into grounding and presence techniques focussing on breath work. This session will introduce evidenced based techniques to reduce stress, improve focus and emotional regulation.

  • Evening Session:

    • Guided Practice: Body Scan Meditation – This is a powerful practice for cultivating mind-body awareness and releasing tension. 

    • Group Reflection and Discussion: A safe, facilitated space for participants to share insights, challenges, and initial experiences.

Day 3: Recovery & Resilience

Theme: From Burnout to Brightness: laying the foundation for Resilience

  • Morning Session:

    • Lecture: The Neurobiology of Burnout and Compassion Fatigue: A physician-led exploration of the neurological and physiological mechanisms of chronic stress. This session will provide the scientific basis for how and why meditation and self-care are essential for protecting the brain and body.

    • Practical Training: The 60-Second Reset: A series of brief, powerful techniques designed to anchor you during high-pressure moments. In this session, we'll practice targeted breath work, somatic grounding, and cognitive reframing to help you feel less anxious and more in control during stressful or frustrating scenarios.

    • Guided Practice:  Gratitude meditation

 

  • Evening session:

    • Workshop: “Micro Doses” of Mindfulness: Learning to integrate short, powerful mindfulness exercises into the daily rhythm of busy work-life stressors.  

    • Group Reflection and Discussions

 

Day 4: Work & Life: Finding a Blissful Balance

Theme: Building a Daily Well-being Practice

  • Morning Session:

    • Lecture: The Science of Habit Formation: Practical, evidence-based strategies for integrating meditation and mindfulness into a busy professional life. We will discuss common barriers and how to overcome them.

    • Workshop: Building Your Personal Well-being Toolkit: A hands-on session where participants create a personalized, multi-faceted toolkit of practices. This includes a mix of short meditations, mindful exercises, and strategies for navigating specific stressors.

    • Mindful Awareness: Rhythms of the Reef: Observe the vibrant, interconnected life of the shallows to learn the art of mindful awareness.  Focus on tuning into nature's natural pace, allowing your internal clock to slow down and match the reef's steady flow.

 

  • Evening session:

    • Guided Practice: Echoes of the Giants: Deepen your practice through the power of listening, inspired by the haunting and majestic songs of the humpback whales.  Focus on these ancient vibrations, cultivate a vast, expansive inner peace that mirrors the depths of the deep blue sea.

    • Group Reflection and Discussion.

Day 5: Looking Forward

Theme: Looking forward to the future

  • Morning Session:

    • Power of Positivity

    • Guided Meditation

    • Mindful Movements: Flow and Fluidity - Practice moving with the currents of life, rather than resisting.  Using water as a metaphor for life's transitions, this session focuses on adaptability and grace, of maintaining your centre even when the waters around you shift.

  • Evening Session:​

    • ​Mindful eating
    • Group Reflection and Discussion

Day 6: Compassion & Connection

Theme: Processing Emotional Weight

  • Morning Session:
    • Sunrise meditation on the beach and advanced breath work 
    • Lecture: Leadership and Compassion: How self care and inner stillness make you a more effective leader and present doctor.
  • Evening Session:​
    • Guided Meditation: Loving kindness​
    • Group Reflection and Discussion

 

Day 7: Emerging Renewed​

    • Sunrise Meditation: Visioning your future

    • Course Conclusion and Certification Ceremony
